Head Mould Study

No2's

Pippa, (and all her derivatives such as Princess, Gala Occasion etc), Marie, Britt, Mandy, Penny and Gail were all produced using the same head mould.  Palitoy manages to make each doll look unique by using different face paint, hair colour and skin tone.  All these dolls have a number 2 marking on the back of their head.

No3's

Tammie, Rosemary and Emma were all made using a different head mould with a cheeky grin and dimples.  These dolls all have the number 3 on their heads.  Rosemary and Emma are the same doll, the result of 'badge engineering' when Palitoy needed a doll to give away free for their Petal incentive scheme.

Pete

First issue Pete was made using old Topper Gary heads.  At some point these must've run out as the second issue Pete had a new face.  It looks like the mould used may have been cast using an original Gary head but the features aren't as strong.  There are no head numbers on Pete

Jasmine

Jasmine has a completely unique face and is the only female Pippa friend not to have rooted eyelashes.  Jasmine seems to have been produced with a variety of head numbers.  She is never a 2 or a 3 but collectors have reported her having 44, 29, 27, 15, 11, 8, 4, and doubtless there are others.

What do the other head numbers mean?

The short answer is that no one seems to know for sure what the upper numbers mean.  They are probably a factory reference number and don't really offer any ID information.
